It’s all systems go for the MCM-JM Busha 54 Races slated for May 18th. The competition is sponsored by JM Busha Investment Group, and will be staged in partnership with the Municipality of Mbabane. This the second edition of
the JM Busha 54 races was launched last Wednesday at the Mbabane Municipal Chambers, and has been sponsored to the tune of E270 000. The confirmed venue for the event is the Coronation Park and Prince of Wales, where activities will include races in the following categories 21.54km, 10.54km, 5.4km. There will be a boot camp, golf, netball and tennis tournaments for the veterans. Announcing the sponsorship, JM Busha Investment Group founder Joseph Makamba Busha said the idea was inspired by a desire to see African countries make a commitment, whether individually or collectively, to adhere to the responsibility for keeping peace and unity in communities
and the world at large. Busha said the 54 stands for all the countries that are under the African Union (AU) and that it was his wish that this day was celebrated across all the 54 countries during the celebrations of the African Day on the 25th of May every year. “Peace is not a process. It is neither an external idea, but it
must reside inside as the state of social connection and togetherness. Humanity is about thinking of the next person,” he said. While explaining why peace was vital for the continent to live together as one global village, Busha emphasized that the race would be centered around four core elements, which are education, music, arts and culture, and sports. Busha said these elements all had one thing in common, which is to bring masses together and
promote the spirit of togetherness. “We must be able to celebrate our identity as Africans through culture which defines us. Sports also plays a huge role in gathering masses, hence sports tourism has now become an important element of economic growth and I hope Mbabane will start promoting that,” he concluded. Meanwhile, Mbabane Mayor Zephaniah Nkambule, when making his remarks, thanked JM Busha Investment Group for creating the platform for the municipality to push its vision of being the preferred destination in Southern Africa. “Sports is central
to the Councils programmers. This is because sports keeps the body and mind healthy and for the Council that
is very important as it ensures that our citizens are healthy,” continued Nkambule. The mayor announced that there would be prizes up for grabs on the day. He promised to compete in the 5.4 km race.
