King astounded by MTN growth

MBABANE- His Majesty King Mswati III has lauded Eswatini M T N for achieving astounding growth over the past two decades which, he said, has brought along the country’s development. His Majesty was speaking during MTN’s 20th anniversary held at Mahlalekhukhwini House recently. Eswatini MTN started operating in the country in September 1998 and for the past two decades, the mobile telecommunications company has achieved many milestones and has
also impacted the country’s economic and social landscape greatly. The king thanked MTN for the role it has played in the development of communications industry in the country which has seen MTN accumulate a million subscribers on
the network. “MTN has played a very vital role in meeting the needs of our people in a variety of sectors through its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives,” His Majesty said. E 30 million has been contributed by the MTN Foundation supporting a number of projects in education, health, enterprise development, cultural initiatives and national priorities.
His Majesty encouraged MTN to fast-track the rapid development of network infrastructure. So far, MTN’s network infrastructure is as follows; 2G network stands at 98 %, 3G network stands at 78% and 4G network stands at 19%.
The king stated that the country would continue supporting MTN and other communication institutions in the industry by ensuring that the landscape is both supportive and enabling. “We would like to thanked MTN International and other stakeholders for continuing to invest towards the introduction and subsequent growth of telecom infrastructure in the kingdom,” he went on to say.
