Sandlane Zwane applauds Matsapha ratepayers


MATSAPHA -Newly appointed Matsapha Mayor Sandla n e Z w a n e applauded Matsapha ratepayers for the timeous payment of rates this year. Prizes valued at over E 30 000 were awarded to Matsapha rate payers. Commercial and residential ratepayers who paid their rates in full this year between the period of April 1 to June 30 qualified for the competition with over E 30 000 in prizes. 416 ratepayers qualified to enter in a draw that was conducted at the Matsapha Town Council premises recently. The competition was meant to remind ratepayers of the
importance of paying rates on time and in full because most pay in installments. In his remarks, Zwane thanked
ratepayers for their cooperation, adding that the council was able to work effectively because of this cooperation. He further reminded them that paying rates on time was commendable because it enabled the council to deliver its services effectively. He likened the paying of rates to bride price, stating that it fosters a mutually beneficial relationship between the parties involved. Worth noting is that last year the municipality collected about E 5.9
million in rates payments. Therefore, this means there has been an increase of E 2.2 million because E 8.1 million has been collected in rates this year. According to the council’s PRO Babhekile Dlamini, the moment their payments had been processed, Matsapha ratepayers would inform the office to say they had paid their rates in full. She also noted that some clients have more than one properties found in Matsapha and therefore, their names appeared more than once when the draw was conducted.
